1980s music

The live music scene in Melbourne saw a demise in popularity through the 1980′s .
Dicso music , mobile discotheques and karaoke all enjoyed popularity to the detriment of live music .

It was a grim time for local acts who were forced to play at beer barns on the outskirts of town , go on tour in country areas or travel around Australia in search of venues to play at and to play paying gigs.

Many venues which previously housed large rock concerts converted to disco music .

It was cheaper , brought in more revenue and was what the punters wanted.

Rehashed songs on constant playback provided the nights entertainment , whilst fans gyrated away under glitter balls to a frenetic pace .

This era spawned garish , parachute silk tracksuits of dubious colour combinations , big hair , chains and padded shoulders .
